Caring for "Me First"

We have been wholeheartedly involved in the health field for more than twenty years. Much of our experience has been with the development and delivery of programs for large, self insured employers. These programs were designed to reduce their costs associated with employee health and workers’ compensation. At the same time they improved the quality of health and work life for their employees.

Here is what we discovered: the better individuals feel about themselves, the more productive they are, and the less they use the health care and workers’ compensation systems. They thus make more money and cost their employers less!

We also found that one size does not fit all, especially when considering gender. Some ideas appeal to men, and others appeal to women. Go figure!

We came to realize that women in the work force were caring for everything and everyone except themselves. Essentially, they put themselves last. We saw first hand what this cost them personally, as well as the eventual cost to their employer that resulted from superwoman burnout. This burnout was simply not being addressed, even by the women themselves. It was time for them to put “Me First!”
